Burning WoW's origins actually began around March 2006, back then we used to be called ChronicBum's WoW, started by ChronicBum (now Gargamel). We started out as a small WoWEmu funserver running the AFG repack. Things we're pretty cool for a while, our server was small, but we had a very close knit community and had alot of fun. A couple of months after, we changed over from using AFG to our own custom repack, it was actually really nice, we became more of a high rate server, but offered a level 199 cap and custom mobs. The server was really nice to be apart of, we weren't overpopulated and everyone got on really well and continued this structure on for a few months.
During October 2006, we started becoming aware of Burning Crusade Beta. Beta was released by Blizz to test out BC on a better scale with their own test realms, only open to a select few. Emu dev's decided to take advantage of this and modify current emulator's to support the Beta client avaliable and were successful. It started out with basic Sandbox emu's, but quickly grew into fully functional emulator releases.
Things on ChronicBum's WoW were fairly quiet. We did our research and decided to take a giant leap for the server and make us move to TBC Beta, becoming one of the first servers out there to be running Burning Crusade (Even months before Retail Officially had it, lol!) Well after i made the announcement, guess what, we got hacked.....bad.
We were pissed. We knew who the person was, he was a former staff member who has been an issue for a while, was jealous and wouldn't leave us alone, so we decided to start fresh, new name, new forums and a new perspective.
Burning WoW was then subsequently born in November 2006, and to kick things off, we began running Burning Crusade Beta v2.0.2.6144
It was indeed the start of something really great. We were becoming really popular. Hardly anyone at the time was running Burning Crusade at all. Most servers considered it too buggy, too risky and didn't quite understand what all the fuss was with Beta.
We had a different perspective. We had the emulator for it, we had a decent enough database, all it needed was work done to make it more workable. And that's what we did. We had great content. Blood Elves and Draenei were avaliable, All the new zones were open, you had Tier 4 & 5, Flying Mounts were working. Spawning in the new zones was lacking, but with all this new content, it was all very tolerable and enticing to check out.
The server was growing faster than we anticipated due to a serious lack of competition with Burning Crusade at the time.
Mid January 2007 Burning Crusade was officially released for Retail. Alot of hype at the time was surrounding it, everyone wanted Burning Crusade, but the problem was there still wasn't anything released for servers that was decent enough to run the Retail Version client. We continued to use Beta for a while, still being one of the only servers with actual Burning Crusade content at the time.
At the time alot of servers were waiting for emulators to come out that were decent enough for the Retail Version, but this took some time and was a considerable wait. We stuck to our guns and continued on with Beta, i was really surprised pretty much all servers didn't even bother considering making a Beta server.
Emulators for TBC Retail were coming out slowly, but the issue was alot of them where way too buggy to even consider making a move too. It took for towards the end of February 2007 to finally get a hold of an emulator that was decent enough to use as a server, so we eventually made that switch, to TBC Version 2.0.8. We implemented Project Silvermoon's work, the wheels started really getting in motion regarding TBC now since Retail support was there.
We were one of the first to jump on board with this development. Other servers were catching on, but we did indeed beat alot of the big namers out there to it, and we were well ahead of the vast majority of our competitiors. We got ourselves a dedicated server, and our popularity was becoming massive. 100's of new members daily, the demand was simply amazing.
This is where Burning WoW really took off and made us where we are now. Our community is getting stronger day by day, our server development is top notch and mixing it up with the best. And we are just getting started, expect even bigger things here in times to come! |
